Synopsis

After their fantastic trip round the world in 2004, fellow actors and bike fanatics Ewan Mc Gregor and Charley Boorman couldn't shake the travel bug. And after an inspirational UNICEF visit to Africa, they knew they had to go back and experience this extraordinary continent in more depth. And so they set off on their 15,000-mile adventure, experiencing some of the toughest terrain in the world - and meeting some of the friendliest people. Containing over one hundred exclusive photographs - including some taken by Ewan and Charley, and many more by internationally renowned photographer Julian Broad - this beautifully illustrated edition vividly documents a trip of a lifetime.

Review

This is a perfect follow-up to the original book on Charley Boorman and Ewan McGreggor's book the Long Way down.  Why do I say this?Because it is a wonderfully photographic volume of the same trip.

There were so many amazing photos taken and filmed on that trip - many will have been seen on the six week evening showing on television of their trip going the long way down through Africa.

They had decided to do this long trip from London to the bottom most tip of Africa to have fun with a real endurace test of strength and friendship and to visit more of the places they had heard of and also to re-visit their special charity sites belonging to Unicef.

The many ups and downs that go with the planning of a trip like this came out in the original book and also the TV shows but I feel that the photographic book shows not only some of the hardest points of the trip but also the beauty of this vibrant country as a whole.

You can see in the book some of the country checkpoints that they went through and can understand the enormity of what they achieved.

I have chosen a few favourite pages of the book which show how Charley and Ewan were so completely relaxed around the children that they met and how it did not seem to worry them when  the children clambered all over their bikes.  The pictures I enjoyed the most are between pages 200 - 207.

I must complement the photography and the beauty of the composition of the subject matter within the covers of Long Way Down an illustrated Edition. A perfect companion to the written story that went before.
