Review

Victor Pemberton is a great author who writes about ordinary people envolved with the war, and how they came through it.  This particular book is all about Nellie as she is named after she escapes from the rubble of the local orphange in Islington.  She joins up with a group of runaways who have made their way back to London after being evacuated to the country.

Nellie decides to make something of herself and manages to get a job in a cafe and a room in the hostel nextdoor.  That is when her story really begins but the terror of the bombs and the V2's still frighten her immensly, but we see her blossom and really make a name for herself.

Victor's writing is fantastic even to the point when you can feel the fear and hear the bombs crashing down. I thoroughly enjoy his books and will try  to read more of them, so that I can learn to write using more expressive language
