Synopsis

Conn should have dropped dead the day he stole a wizard's locus stone, but miraculously he survives. Becoming the wizard's apprentice, Conn becomes embroiled in his master's plan to save the city, whose magic is slowly dying. Meanwhile, the Wizard, Nevery, is secretly beginning to question Conn's past: why did the thief survive in the Twilight and why is he immune to injury? But Conn is hiding a much darker secret. Sarah Prineas has imagined a richly detailed magical world like no other. Enter the world of The Magic Thief. It provides beautiful illustrations, maps and extra material. Use the runic code at the back of the book to discover hidden messages. It features an interactive website that ties in with maps and games.

Review

Sarah Prineas has created a wonderful fantasy world of her own in the delightful story about a pickpocket - thief called Conwater and a crochety old wizard with the name of Nevery Flinglas.

I like the way the book is presented especially at the very end of the book where there is a detailed map showing where all the main characters live. The runic alphabet - a special way of writing, and pictures of the main characters with a few lines about each one.

A great deal of thought has gone into this project and I enjoyed the interplay between Nevery Flinglas and Conwater, which in parts is really very funny.

This book is a page turner with a good plot, believable characters and of course Conwater who'll never be out of trouble.

Pure Magic.
