Luke Gamble cut his teeth as a mixed practice vet in the West Country. Now it's time to see if he can stand on his own two feet. Wild stallions, drowning cows and constipated snakes aside, Luke's challenges have only just begun.
No longer working at the West Country clinic, he's marrying the girl of his dreams while launching his own practice, Pilgrims. On top of that, he's managing his international veterinary charity and two other veterinary businesses. On his extreme travels around the world, Luke dodges hippos and chimps, and swaps the familiar farms of home for the refugee camps of Africa, all on his idealistic quest to make a difference.
But Luke is more than just an international vet. He's also a husband, a friend, an entrepreneur and, potentially, an Ironman triathlete. Does he have what it takes to juggle it all?

Review
I loved Luke Gamble's first book ‘The Vet: My Wild and Wonderful Friends' and his second book ‘The Vet:the Big Wild World' is just brilliant. In the first book we ended with Luke about to propose to his girlfriend Cordelia - now in his second book we meet him trying to feed a seal pup without getting his fingers bitten off - curtsey of his vet friend Sam, who he seems to be able to con into going on pretty much all of his ventures both here in Britain and abroad.
We also get to see how Luke set up Pet Air his pet transportation service and of course he gets to meet Cordelia's parents and gets married! This is a book of mayhem, fun, pathos - in fact you have just about everything you would want in a book about animals, and a vet who's willing to travel the world to help communities and other vets to resolve the animal problem of cats, dogs and donkeys who transport massive loads.
There are some hysterically funny stories and also some very serious heart breaking ones, but through all of this, Luke's light shines through. He first and foremost cares deeply about animals and secondly about the humans looking after the animals. He is a visionary in what he wants to do and will move mountains to get there - well actually an Ironman triathelon to be precise!
He has much to do in this world and goes at it at top speed with oceans full of enthusiasm. He is an entrepreneur with an excellent business head, whose visions I have no doubt he will make to come true with help from a terrific bunch of people.
We leave this book with Cordelia telling Luke that he's going to be a father! I definitely look forward to book three to see what Luke gets up to next!
I more than recommend this book for readers of all ages - a very modern James Herriot.
