This is the first of the books written solely by Todd McCaffrey that i have read. I am not sure if it the influence from his mother or the work of the editing team that has produced a book as close in style of writing to the original dragon books by Anne McCaffrey. The story is well written and rounded with very complex charactors that grow all the way through the story. ..read more

Every Which Way But Dead

Review

This is not a children's read with the story line getting very dark at times. But, if you like a read that drags you in and keeps you riveted waiting to find out what happens next this is it. Rachel Morgan the lead is one of the most exciting characters I have read about in years. This book has everything, all your favourite supernatural character types, also a good spattering of crime and romance, with some of the cheekiest jokes to make you smile. ..read more

People have referred to the Rachel Morgan series of books as ‘Chicklit'. I must disagree, this book could be read by all, giving plenty of entertainment to male and female readers. The romantic theme is not over played, and the almost constant activity keeps the reader thoroughly gripped, almost forcing you to turn the page to find out what will happens next. The lead character is a sexy bounty hunting witch, who seems not to understand the simple life. From her choice of housemate or boyfriend, to her work partners or clients. ..read more

Having read the previous two books in this saga I have been waiting for a chance to read this. The action starts from the get go and just keeps moving. Because of the way the events are viewed from various peoples perspective the story does at time feel a little disjointed however this does give the reader a chance to understand the full situation. Because of the way the action is portrayed from the early parts all the way through when you get to read what happens when the hero's finally win out the ending feels a little bit under described. ..read more

Having been drawn into the series with the previous book I was looking forward to the continuation of this saga. The story is compelling and hard to put down, the people very well rounded. The ending however does leave you a little disappointed. For all the complex situations that the characters go through until the last chapter. The final solution to the problem that has been troubling all the characters through the series although very unusual make you feel as though it was rushed and not as well thought out as the rest of the book. ..read more

I have read this book once previously, but found that on reading it again the depth of thought put into the characters was astounding. This book could stand well against crime drama books, if you were to ignore the interlanders. The author has created an alternative future that gives the reader the enough normality that you end up thinking that the Interlanders are entirely real. The lead character is a strong young woman and the interactions between her and the other characters allows for some very witty comments.

I picked up this book not having read the first book in the series. The story was easy to get into, well described and beautifully crafted. I have read some of the Acorna series of books so had some knowledge of the background of the worlds and people. But this book can be read entirely on its own without having read any of the others. The characters are engaging, the situations give you a very compelling read that is hard to put down. It will keep you hooked and wanting to know more of the lives of the fantastic and complex people you are introduced to.

The collaborations between Anna McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough are always well written with lots to suit readers of all ages. This is no exception with the well rounded characters, beautifully described settings, and believable situations. The attention to detail in creating character history, including ancestral racial traits, makes the links between the characters and real people more believable. The mix of real and made up beliefs, creates the depths of background that you come to expect from such accomplished writers.

When you see either of these two names on the front of a book you are guaranteed a great read. They produce worlds of such depth, and characters with a full history it is easy to be drawn into believing them fully. The adventure in this book is no exception as it takes hold of you from the beginning and keeps you riveted until the end of the book. At times it is hard to put the book down, as you want to find out what happens next.
