The Killing

Review

Based on the highly successful screen play by Soren Sveistrup this book is a winner. David Hewson has filled out the characters and made them into believable people. He has captured the atmosphere of this rather bleak screenplay and made it into a book which is gripping and exciting. Once I started reading I was hooked until the last page and read it just three days! There is a slight twist at the end and several things in the book have been changed but in my opinion it made far more sense.

A throughly enjoyable book.I loved it and highly recommended it.

Review

David Hewson's book the Garden of Evil is really, really  evil.  But I enjoyed the murders,  the artistic finds, the knowledge of the characters and the power of the written word.

Nic the detective has only recently married Emily, another officer in the police force, where they are based in Rome and this is where the story starts. There is a search for a violent criminal, but those who discover or think they have the identity of the major players can not catch him in the act of killing.

Nic Costa must be the unluckiest cop in Rome.  He seems always to end up with a bum partner, and it always seems to be a girl that they are trying to find out about or answers to a crime involving a female.

The Villa of Mysteries is another in David Hewson books this time Nic has recovered from his injuries but has been partnered with a cop who has been busted down from the vice squad and doesn't seem to remember how ordinary street cops work.  Nic is having to re-educate him! Especialy about how the city of Rome works.

Review

David writes in a way that is exciting and very pictorial so you can visulize the places quite well even if you have not been to them.  This story is set in Rome and the outcome is really quite different to what I would have imagined.

The detectives seem to be chasing round and round in ever decreasing circles and when you have read the whole book you inderstand why!

This is a terrifying, chilling, a conspiracy killer novel but it is also a deadly slice of history. I love thrillers and find that I get so immersed in them that I forget to eat or sleep. This one by David Hewson had me gripped, I just needed to get to the end. Fantastic piece of literature.
