Introduction

Lyn McNichol and laura Jackson have done a brilliant job writing their Badger the Mystical Mutt books for children, and wanted to find out why they'd written them and who or what was their inspiration for quite an adventurous dog who stood up for victims of bullying - but also helped the bullies!

Interview

Vicky:- Who first thought up the idea for the books?

Lyn & Laura:- We can't remember who thought of it first. It just started out as an idea, and we thought it would be easy (hah!). We went on holiday together in 2005, and wrote 300 words then, and thought job done. We had so much to learn. I have to say I just love these books - they are written so well and sweep you up in a tales of chaos, mayhem and fun with a little bit of magic. They are perfect stories for kids of all ages with lots of pictures and big writing for easy reading.

The story is surprisingly smart and what it is trying to get over to kids and that is bullying is not such a good idea, and maybe the bully is actually hurting him/herself.

Badger the Mystical Mutt is a brilliant book written by Lyn McNicol and Laura Jackson - it is charming, fun, full of magic, mystery and an inspiration, and I have to say I just loved it, especially the fact that when things go wrong or Badger needs time to think, he tries to magic up a pile of buttered toast!! He has a magical machine called the Wim-Wim that takes you to a very grumpy cloud to go to the unicorn.

I have to say this book had me laughing out loud many times - I mean can you imagine a very whiffy Chihuahua cha cha-ing away at an Anton du Bark dancing contest!
The writing of Lyn McNicol and Laura Jackson is brilliant, inspirational, charming and just plain fun.

They tell a story of bullying in such a way that it encourages youngsters not to do it and to help people who are being bullied.
