Dead Man's Grip

Well, I'm a big fan of Peter James and I always look out for his signing events when a new book is launched. This time was no different and I was very lucky to be invited to tag along to Peter's book launch being held at a bleak, windy and rainy Shoreham Harbour. After getting slightly lost en route - sadly, I think I'm one of those people who should use a sat nav for even the shortest of journeys - we finally parked up and got blown along to a huge warehouse on the edge of the quay, with Police everywhere. ..read more

This was a bit of a change to the Peter James books I’ve read lately, which has mostly being a diet of Roy Grace novels,  so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but no worries – this is a great book with a sad twist at the end which brought a tear to my eye!

The Herring on the Nile

Author
L.C. Tyler
Genre
Review

The latest book in The Red Herring series with Elsie Thirkettle who is a literary and Ethelred Trossider a third rate crime writer.

Another very funny book written with tremendous flair, with all the ingredients for a good murder story with espionage and terrorists thrown in.

Ethelred is trying to find some new ideas for his latest book to boost up his flagging sales, so he and Elsie take a trip down the Nile on a paddle steamer and explore local sites on the way for some inspiration.

Conversations With Myself - unabridged audio book

Author
Nelson Mandela
Genre
Review

Conversations With Myself is quite brilliantly read by John Kani who has the ability in his rendition of Nelson Mandela's words, to make you feel every nuance of what Mandela went through both in prison and when he was released.

This is an illuminating unabridged audio cd of 10 hours which I highly recommend should be listened to. We hear about what Mandela cares about most, but it also shows that he has a dry sense of humour that seems to have kept him going through thick and thin.

Ten hours of excellent and thought provoking listening of a modern day icon.

Dead Like You - review 2

Review

I really love Peter James' books, he is one of my favourite authors and find it very pleasing when I read his thrillers as Brighton is my local hunting ground. Once again, his knowledge of the Brighton Police force and their procedures is excellent - I attended a book event with Peter a couple of years ago and know that he shadows the local Police very closely when researching his books and you can tell! Although I didn't want to put the book down - I didn't want to finish it either because I was enjoying the story so much!

Dead Like You

Genre
Review

Dead Like You is a real page turner I have to say - dealing with a rapist/s murderer who takes top quality shoes from his victims. Peter shows us through the story what rape victims go thorugh and how it effects their lives for ever more - unlike a buglary, which in time fades - rape never does.

I found it fascinating to go back through time to when Roy Grace was married to Sandy and what their relationship was like in comparison to how he is with Cleo now.

I have to say I just love this book, not just because the pictures are so good, but because it shows you how you can support the animals that may be in danger of extinction in the near future, as their habitat is torn down for various reasons.

I really do highly recommend this book for everyone - it is  well  thought out with loads of the right kind of information.

Up Till Now: The Autobiography

Review

I picked this book up with some trepidation. All I knew about William Shatner was his role as "James Tiberius Kirk", the captain of the Starship Enterprise and it would've been easy for me to think that was all there was to him. He's known... for.. talking.. like this.. on overly dramatic scenes; and is infamous not only for his "amazing" rendition of "Rocket Man"  but also for his well aimed quip at Trekkies. ..read more
