The Arthur Moreau Story

Author
Guy Booth
Genre
Review

Guy Booth's first foray into literature takes us into a society which has lost its sense of purpose and its moral compass, allowing mad-cap scientists who should have long ago been locked in the asylum, the power over life and death.
Booth's background in the fashion industry is clear from the first page, but his ornate description at times grates and at times stops the flow of the novel.

From a simple premise comes the creepiest and most unnerving read I've had in a long time. Neil Gaiman was right when he said that Heart Shaped Box is the most assured debut since Clive Barkers The Damnation Game.

Yet again, Joe Hill emerges triumphant with another grand horror yarn. The most original premise: Ig Perrish wakes up with two horns growing out of his head and can make people tell him their deepest darkest secrets; which is just as well because he's been framed for the murder of his ex-girlfriend!

20th Century Ghosts

Joe Hill

Review

This book is one of the best short story collections I've read in a long time, and reminds me of Clive Barkers Books of Blood for pure originality and awesomeness. Each story had a different feel, a different nuance -though not all of them could be called horror, some were more poignant than others- but all were brilliant and inspiring. There were times when I was really creeped out by the Hill's ideas (and also a little peeved, because I often wished that I'd thought of them first...)

The Naming of the Beasts

Author
Mike Carey
Genre
Review

The culmination of the Rafi Ditko storyline -all the Felix Castor novels have been leading to this point.

Normally when a series of novels take this long to culminate it's possible for them to run out of steam, or the author to run out of idea's to keep the pace up. Thankfully, The Naming Of The Beasts is guilty of neither of these. From the cliffhanger of the previous novel, "Thicker Than Water" this novel never looses its roller-coaster like pace, and for once the reader even wonders whether Felix Castor is going to make it out alive!

Necronomicon Review 2

Author
H.P.Lovecraft
Genre
Review

Like most of my favourite authors, I stumbled upon H P Lovecraft by accident. I'd heard about him through reading about other horror authors and Lovecraft's name kept cropping up. I found one of his books in a car boot sale, and the rest -as they say - is history.

The stories that feature in this lovingly collected edition show the width and depth that was Howard Philips Lovecraft fantastical fiction. Why fantastical? Lovecraft managed to walk the knife edge between the genres of horror; fantasy and science-fiction like no other author.
