Trueman Bradley - Aspie Detective

Author
Alexei Maxim Russell
Genre
Review

My copy of ‘Trueman Bradley' is very dog eared because it has been read by all my family and many of my friends and we all love it. Sadly my 4 month old puppy loves the book too which is why half of the cover is missing!

The Silent Girl

Author
Tess Gerritsen
Genre
Review

Another gripping thriller form Gerritsen. Again we join Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles as they investigate a series of killings in Chinatown, which seem to be connected to a murder-suicide 19 years earlier, and a series of missing girls. The main problem is that the present day killer seems to be undetectable - no evidence, never caught on cameras, and with animal fast reflexes.

However, some people aren't happy about a 19 year old case being reopened, and as they get nearer to the truth, the search has devastating consequences.

Dark Origins:Level 26:Book One

Author
Anthony E. Zuiker
Genre
Review

Written by the creator of the TV series CSI:Crime Scene Investigation, this book had a lot to live up to.

It follows a similar theme, with the main character having to track and trace a killer before he harms those closest to him, however it follows police work more than the forensic side of things.

Zuikers' screen writing history is evident throughout, with a very graphic, visually orientated descriptions of characters and places, that change quickly from one'scene' to the next.

A Passion for Killing

Author
Barbara Nadel
Genre
Review

I can't help but feel a little... Disappointed!! The storyline jumps around far too often, is messy and her investigation seems sluggish and somewhat unlikely, she brings in intriguing ideas then doesn't follow them up and in parts is formulaic or a tad 'surprising'. Nadel' characters were dull/flat or contradictory, which was irritating. I wonder how a long time fan would have felt reading this? Maybe I really do need to read the 8 previous books in the series... BUT won't be after attempting this one book! Moving on... ..read more

Dark Side

Author
Belinda Bauer
Genre
Review

Really enjoyed the first half or so of this book. Good page turner with wonderful descriptions and a wicked way with words. (I particularly liked "a rota of nurses, all busts and bingo wings"). Having being brought up in small village, the slightly claustrophobic atmosphere came over with great authenticity.

However, as the story developed, the characters seemed to lose their definition and drift away, and, as the body count increased, my interest decreased and I started skipping to the end.

To Kill a Stone Heart

Review

I really enjoyed this book. It's a very good story with strong characters, easy to read and get involved in, and a real page turner. I couldn't put it down at night and wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next, it is also great to read on a kindle or iPad. The story is totally entertaining and very informative (but not in a boring patronising way). ..read more

The Herring on the Nile

Author
L.C. Tyler
Genre
Review

The latest book in The Red Herring series with Elsie Thirkettle who is a literary and Ethelred Trossider a third rate crime writer.

Another very funny book written with tremendous flair, with all the ingredients for a good murder story with espionage and terrorists thrown in.

Ethelred is trying to find some new ideas for his latest book to boost up his flagging sales, so he and Elsie take a trip down the Nile on a paddle steamer and explore local sites on the way for some inspiration.

Trueman Bradley - Aspie Detective

Author
Alexei Maxim Russell
Genre
Review

I am a fan of detective novels and Russell does not disappoint... Trueman Bradley entertains and enchants but a secondary benefit is that he educates the reader about Aspergers and shows it as an asset.

Trueman Bradley is a quirky, charming novel about a young man with Aspergers Syndrome who has a talent for mathematics and a penchant for solving problems. From the opening lines I was gently gripped and felt a delight - returning me to my childhood, when I would curl up and read feel-good stories where everything turns out in the end.

The Lincoln Lawyer - audio cd

Author
Michael Connelly
Genre
Review

Last time I saw Michael Brandon was in the TV series Dinotopia so it was a lovely surprise to hear how gravelly his voice was for his rendition of The Lincoln Lawyer. Infact it was brilliant - I was immediately drawn into the story and how was our hero Mickey Haller going to survive his latest case.
