This box set although it only has 7 books in the box has 42CD's and they are all read by James Macpherson.

I have just finished listening for the second time to Exit Music the last Rebus novel as he had to retire because he had been knocking around the Edinburgh police station for some 20 plus years.

Review

Subtitled A Hawkenlye Mystery, this novel is the tenth in a series of mystery stories set in the late twelfth century.

Readers addicted to the series will certainly enjoy the latest addition, in which a familiar cast of characters including the Abbess Helewise, the knight Josse d'Acquin and his mysterious lover Joanna unravel the events surrounding the death of one Florian of Southfirth, events involving a possibly fraudulent set of miracle working bones.

Foreign Body

Robin Cook
Genre
Review

I have waited patiently till this third book of Medical Crime novels by Robin Cook to reach our shores.

Robin has done it again kept us in complete suspence until the end about who did what, and why to whom!!

These books are different because they are hospital base crime and not your in the street, such as most crime fiction writers write.  I think because of the nurse in me, I can see how that the art of defining a crime in a hospital is so hard to do, and for it to succeed in the way it has in this book is amazing.

Rebus Audio Box Set - The first 10 Stories

Author
Ian Rankin
Genre
Review

This is a brilliant set of amazing discs covering the first 10 books on 32CD's.

This set are read by two very well known people, James Macpherson and Bill Patterson. Both are fantastic at getting the stories across and doing the many voices that are needed for each book.  Because they both come from north of the border, Bill from Glasgow and James from Edinburgh there is that rich gaelic tone to their voices which is so perfect for these stories written by one of Edinburgh's finest - Ian Rankin.

The Garden of Evil

David Hewson
Genre
Review

David Hewson's book the Garden of Evil is really, really  evil.  But I enjoyed the murders,  the artistic finds, the knowledge of the characters and the power of the written word.

Nic the detective has only recently married Emily, another officer in the police force, where they are based in Rome and this is where the story starts. There is a search for a violent criminal, but those who discover or think they have the identity of the major players can not catch him in the act of killing.

Nic Costa must be the unluckiest cop in Rome.  He seems always to end up with a bum partner, and it always seems to be a girl that they are trying to find out about or answers to a crime involving a female.

The Villa of Mysteries is another in David Hewson books this time Nic has recovered from his injuries but has been partnered with a cop who has been busted down from the vice squad and doesn't seem to remember how ordinary street cops work.  Nic is having to re-educate him! Especialy about how the city of Rome works.

Wire in the Blood

Author
Val McDermid
Genre
Review

This is a crime novel, but dealt with in a very different way, from the perspective of a psychological profiler.  The way that this story is put together is fantastic and how the mind of Val McDermid has worked to produce this book is really astonishing, especially the way she has been able to enter the very warped and criminally devient mind - which to me is very frightening.

Review

An exciting and riveting crime novel by E V Seymour, an author I have not come across before, but will certainly look for more of her work as new books are released.

This story is based around some very crooked and weird police and MI5 officers, but are they what they seem?  The book has so many twists and turns thst you at one time believe they are real and then a few minutes later you start to have doubts but read it yourself and decide.

Review

This is fantastic first novel by Jason Pinter 'The Mark' stands out very much as a brilliant piece of writing.

I loved the book and the heroics of Henry and how he managed to turn an amazing situation around. He also manages to use the hate his father has always had for him as the stimulus to keep him alive  during the closing stages of the book.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Genre
Review

Can one believe all the hype about 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'? I think you can. It is a tour de force that is very graphic in it's description especially where sado masochism is concerned. I found it to be a story full of intrigue, twists and turns like a maze and is there a love story to be found? I felt involved with both Blomkvist and Salander and was intrigued to see how they fitted together in the overall story. I have to say I was very envious of Salander's computer skills as a hacker and what info she could get with her sphisticated programming! ..read more
