The Great Lover is a terrific novelisation of poet Rupert Brooke's life written by Jill Dawson. She has very kindly answered Jayne's questions for us.
J: How did you decide that this was the poet you wanted to write about?
JD: It wasn't so much the poetry, but the man, and the place. I knew I wanted to write about a charismatic sexy man, the sort that women keep falling for when they know they shouldn't, and my novels often start with a place, a setting or an atmosphere I want to capture. This time it was Grantchester and especially the beautiful orchard, near the river Cam, where there are still lovely old trees and it's easy to imagine people sipping tea under them a hundred years ago.
