Introduction

When I read Dosh Archer's Urgency Emergency children's books I new I wanted to interview her, but what I hadn't bargained for was that she got to me first and here's the end result. Enjoy.

Interview

VW: What motivated you to in essence to rewrite children's poems and fairy tales into the Urgency Emergency children's books?

DA: I thought it would be funny if someone or something tried to bring an element of order to the chaotic world of fairy tales and rhymes. I like combining elements, e.g. 'Urgency Emergency' is a cross between Casualty and The Muppets....

VW: Did these stories start of as a university project?

DA: No, I graduated from Art School, and then Teacher Training a long time ago!

I have to say that this is a brilliant take on the Little Miss Muffet tale which is humerous with lovely bright pictures to keep any child happy. I love the fact that Nurse Percy is a cockerel, Dr Glenda is a dog and the Pengamedics are of course penguins! I feel that parents who read this to their children will find themselves enjoying it as well. One to recommend.

Another brilliant take on a classic children's tale - this time it is Little Red Riding Hood who comes in for the Dosh Archer treatment. These stories are fun, bright and very enticing for any child to read or even an adult to read to a them. Again I have much enjoyed reading this quirky book with it's interesting ending! One to recommend.

Another excellent funny book from Dosh Archer - I would have loved to have been in that Urgency Emergency department when the Melting Snowman came in! Can you imagine giving him lots of icecream from the local shop - or even the snowman feeling sick from eating too much of the stuff. Wonderful! A book for all ages, especially those young at heart. Dosh certainly has a wicked sense of humour that he uses well with his story line that are beautifully illustrated. More than once I have laughed out loud! Again another one to recommend.
