What strategies did use when revising and editing essay?

Knowing the ways to quickly and efficiently edit the text of an essay, sooner or later can be useful to almost every college student. Often, many college students prefer to turn an essay writing editor, which can easily cope with their difficulties at. This can be a good way out for many. But if you still decide to do all the work yourself, our article should tell you how to do it right.

Ways to edit an essay

Editing is necessary to improve the text and to communicate information more clearly to the reader. To do this, an editorial or cross-reading is used in which the material is reviewed, drawing attention to specific aspects.

Consistency and consistency of the essay text

There is a rule – reread the entire sentence, even if you replace only one word in it. Unnoticed important information may drop out of the text or appears:

  • repetition;
  • double negation;
  • inconsistency of declensions.

In the final stages, when the text has already been tested, it is extremely important to read it aloud one more time.  If you read it out loud, most sentences are run through your eyes mechanically, and it's hard to recognize hidden flaws.

Using Numbers

Numbers lend credibility to the text. But only when they are true. Don't write values out of your head:

  • They may be checked, and if you find an error, your reputation will be tarnished;
  • If people believe in unrealistic promises in numerical form, it will be very difficult to live up to them.

When editing the text, be sure to verify that the numbers are real. It is better to double-check ten times than to blush and correct later.

Names

Often, when editing an essay, authors leave out the name of the organization that is mentioned in the text. It is necessary to keep in mind that errors in names and titles are very noticeable and should be avoided.

Ways to correct an essay

After the editorial reading, the second part of editing is proofreading. This is the sequence – first the reading and review, then the detailed proofreading. It is divided into three types.

Processing

The most gentle method when correcting stylistic, spelling, logical, and compositional errors. The peculiarity is that the text in general remains the same, only individual words or sentences can be changed. Sometimes paragraphs are rearranged.

Paragraph abbreviation

The most radical approach is when whole chunks of the text are thrown out. Only the main line of the narrative is left, and the other parts with side aspects are ruthlessly erased. For example, during an editorial reading, a piece is found, albeit related to the main idea of the text but containing a left-wing theme. It is better deferred for another article.

Proofreading

The toughest type of proofreading is when almost the entire text is rewritten. From the source is usually left only the information prepared, and the article itself is written from scratch – with a new structure, in a suitable format.

Yes, sometimes one cannot shred one's text so brutally. But that is what professionalism is all about – not to blow the dust off every letter you type, but to soberly assess the quality of the material and, if necessary, to bring it up to speed in any way possible.

If you have read this far, then you already have a general idea of how an editor works. Now there is nothing to stop you from editing the essay yourself. If you have any difficulties, you can always turn to the experts.
